Canine First Aid and CPR Course

  • Pawsessions Dog Training, Socialization and Event Center 51 Broadway Greenlawn, NY, 11740 United States (map)

This essential life-saving course is given by Paramedic Theresa Bellafiore…. scroll down to see her bio below!

Would you know what to do in an emergency?

In person class: This 2 hour First Aid and CPR course is designed to give the pet lover, dog sport enthusiast or pet professional the necessary information and skills to stabilize an injured animal until qualified veterinarian care is accessed.

Whether you are new to dog ownership or a long time friend, EMS provider, have a puppy, or care for a senior dog, own a purebred or a mixed breed from the shelter; regardless of your situation, your dog is precious to you. You only want the best for your dog, just like you want the best for every member of your family.

One thing the class gives to the students is confidence. Confidence that no matter what the situation is, you will be able to provide care that will help for the best possible outcome. That alone is priceless.

The class content covers over 20 first-aid items including: first aid kits, torn pads, dog fights, seizures, broken bones, electrical injuries, muzzling, bleeding control and appropriate restraining of an injured animal. There is special attention to choking, bloat, and poisons.

There are several hands-on-type skills that you will use on individual fake dogs.  The class is relaxed and our open format is very conducive for learning. Since the material is paramedic-based, you can even use your new-found skills on humans (if you want to that is!).

Please no dogs to class. Service dogs are always welcome. Hope to see you soon!

Theresa Bellafiore and Max

Hi, I’m Theresa Bellafiore. I’m passionate about 2 things; animals and helping people.

I’ve been a volunteer firefighter/paramedic for over 20 years, and an animal lover my whole life.

I graduated as valedictorian from my Paramedic class and continuously attend training to broaden my proficiency and perfect my skills as an EMS provider, field training officer and instructor. I’m also an American Heart Association Instructor, teaching CPR/First Aid and ACLS to police, firefighters, EMT’s, physicians and laypersons.

My other passion is animals. I love them all - even scary looking ones! I don’t even kill bugs… except maybe for ticks…

I’ve taken my extensive knowledge and experience providing exceptional pre-hospital care and combined it with my love of all things furry to develop an exciting, interactive program that teaches people how to provide emergency care to dogs before they can get to a veterinarian. We cover many different injuries, illnesses and situations and deliver it n a fun way to prepare you for any emergency!

What you do in the first few minutes of a serious injury or illness can save a dog’s life! I’ve done extensive research and worked with veterinarians to give everyone attending these classes current, life-saving skills and the confidence to know what to do when it matters the most.

These courses are perfect for ANYONE who loves dogs! Pet owners, trainers,

groomers, pet sitters, dog walkers, shelter and kennel staff, First Responders, FIRE/EMS, Police and other pet professionals will learn to recognize and treat a dog in emergency situations.
